Meet Masibulele Matyan from Witsand, the rising star in Xhosa Trap music who wants to take the world by storm! Better known as Dollarkid RSA, this talented rapper, singer, poet, and producer has been working hard for nine years to achieve his dreams. Now he is finally getting the recognition he deserves.
Born in Cape Town in 2000, Matyana (right on photo) started his entertainment career as a poet at just 12 years old. By the time he was 14, he had formed the ‘Best Dope Boys Crew’ with four of his friends. Despite not having access to a studio, the crew used their phone to record their songs and pursue their passion for music. His mission is to inspire his community and remind everyone that they have a purpose in life. In 2017 he and his crew joined M’unity Records, a recording label owned by Zothando, also known was Zothiemind. Their talent and commitment to music made them stand out and in 2018, with Zothiemind’s guidance, they created their own studio. At the same time, he also got himself a manager, Eviwe Ngqeme.
In December 2020, Matyana opened his own record label, Golden Jungle Records, in Cape Town. Together with Anele Plati (King Ace) and Sandile Dopolo (Umprofeti aka Sky Mulla) from GoodLife Entertainment, they are putting Xhosa Trap on the map in Witsand and surrounds. Dollarkid RSA’s unique style of music is a fusion of spaza, hip hop and trap. He is inspired by artists like Emtee, Nasty C, Kwesta, Dax, Bravo le Roux, Pro X and others. “My music reflects real-life stories and things that people can relate to”.
Despite challenges like losing his fan base and not receiving enough recognition, his message is clear: “Don’t stop believing in whatever you believe, and hold on to the feeling,” he says. His journey is a true inspiration to all aspiring musicians, showing that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
