On Saturday, 11 March 2023, Avondale Majorettes hosted the second Federation of Dance Drill, Cheerleading and Majorettes Association Western Cape (FDDCMWC) Competition. The event was held at Avondale Primary School.
The team took home five bronze medals, seven silver medals, and seven gold medals, where the Mace group categories were the highlight of the day. The mace is a prop thrown in the air during their performance. This category also shows advancement and leadership and is usually seen as one of the major highlights. Coach, Kaylene Cordom, says she feels excited for the year ahead, especially because the Western Cape will be hosting the 2023 FDDCMWC National Championship. “After just three weeks of practice, the girls delivered amazing performance.
In such little time, they have achieved greatness. We are looking forward for the parents to see these athletes grow to a national standard,” Cordom said. The athletes will be traveling to Kraaifontein for their next competition on Saturday 15 April 2023.
