Last week, Mamre Library proudly led World Read Aloud Day celebrations, reaching more than 500 children through storytelling and reading activities across the community.
The day started at Pella Moravian Primary School, where the City`s Disaster Risk Management partnered with the library to present an interactive puppet show. The performance brought stories to life in a fun and engaging way, encouraging children to see reading as exciting and enjoyable. After the school visit, Grade R learners from Mamre Primary School enjoyed librarians and volunteers reading aloud to them. Research shows that approximately 81% of Grade 4 learners in South Africa cannot read for meaning, and the day’s activities highlight the important role libraries and community partners play in supporting literacy development.
