The creative spirit of Atlantis was on full display when Shane’s Media House hosted the Atlantis Art Exhibition on 10 July 2026, bringing together artists, photographers and creatives from Atlantis, Mamre, Pella and Witsand in a celebration of local heritage, culture and community.
The immersive gallery experience showcased the area’s rich history and diverse stories through visual art and photography, while providing a platform for local talent to share their work with the wider community. According to Shane Hoop, owner of Shane’s Media House, the exhibition was inspired by a desire to change the narrative surrounding Atlantis.
“Too often people only know Atlantis for gangsterism. I wanted to start something that reminds people of our heritage and allows them to see Atlantis differently. Small businesses are celebrating Atlantis in ways that many others are not, and I wanted this event to highlight that.”
Hoop said the exhibition was designed to create a space where community members could connect with the history, identity and future of Atlantis through creative expression. The evening featured live music performances, refreshments and a symbolic time capsule initiative aimed at preserving the spirit of the community for future generations. For Hoop, one of the biggest highlights was the overwhelming support from both the community and local businesses. “Seeing strangers and friends supporting my journey, together with the many small businesses that believed in my vision, was incredibly rewarding,” he said. He said planning for the exhibition began at the end of 2023, with preparations continuing until funding became available in early 2026, allowing the project to become a reality.
Although some larger stakeholders were ultimately unable to provide the support that had been promised, Hoop said local businesses, volunteers and community members stepped forward to ensure the event’s success. “One of the biggest challenges was finding enough people willing to support a vision focused on celebrating and growing our township. In the end, the community showed what can be achieved when people work together. I am honoured and grateful to every small business, volunteer and guest who made this exhibition a reality. Thank you for believing in this vision.”
Among those who supported the initiative were the Atlantis Creative Hub and SEDA as artwork sponsors. Décor was provided by Atlantis Creative Hub, C’est La Via and Evolve Events, while Mzansi Spirits sponsored the beverages. Sound was supplied by Bad Bone Production, with event planning coordinated by Glam Hub. Joy Funzions provided the 360-degree fun booth, while Impact News provided media coverage and other support. Photographs of Josh Daniels, Kaydin Davids, Jason Baart, Wayne Daniels, Shane Hoop and Sikwena James were on display, while sketch artists Chandre Stevens and Chad Page showcased their talents during the event.
