A 31-year-old man from Witsand was killed and several others injured in a three-vehicle collision that occurred on Saturday night, 4 October 2025, at the corner of Charl Uys Drive and Sampson Street in Wesfleur, Atlantis.
According to a police spokesperson, officers responded to the scene at around 21h50 following reports of a serious accident involving a white Toyota Quantum, a blue Renault, and a Volkswagen Polo. When emergency services arrived, they found multiple passengers injured. The Quantum, which was carrying seven occupants, sustained significant damage. One of the passengers, identified as Mamelezi Vuziayezi (31) from Witsand, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The other injured passengers received medical treatment from paramedics before being transported to Wesfleur Hospital. Police confirmed that the driver of the Volkswagen Polo fled the scene before authorities arrived and has not yet been apprehended. The accident response unit attended to the scene, and a case of culpable homicide has been opened. No arrests have been made at the time of going to press, with investigators still in the process of obtaining witness statements.
Police have not yet identified any forensic or video evidence and are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed the crash or have information on the fleeing driver to come forward.
