With November focusing on activism against women and child abuse, and amidst the observance of Men’s Health Month and International Men’s Day, it is important to celebrate the successes of our young men. Two months ago, these four young participants of the BPS Youth Development Programme, guided and supported by their personal Youth Life Coaches, began the application process for kitchen utility positions aboard MSC Cruise ships. It was an incredible milestone for the BPS family as these four young men, brothers Adrian and Buren Blanckenberg, Alo-Niel Adams, and Ethon Rhode, officially began their training. The BPS Programme, short for Basic Package of Support, equips young people with the skills, guidance, and confidence to build sustainable futures through employment and personal growth opportunities.
Through their hard work, preparation, and unwavering commitment, these young men managed to successfully complete all required online interviews and assessments, demonstrating exceptional dedication to their personal and professional development.
On 20 October, they commenced their intensive 10-day training programme, which they have now completed with distinction. Two others, Ashwin van Staden and Luthanda Tabu, completed their training just prior to this group. All six candidates are currently awaiting scheduled dates for their medical examinations and other compulsory training before officially beginning their international voyages.
“Their achievements represent far more than the completion of a programme — they symbolise courage, opportunity, and the transformative impact of youth development. Their success sends a powerful message to other young people: possibilities open when belief meets effort. Today, they stand as role models for many who will follow in their footsteps,” said Jo-Lynn Daniels, BPS Youth Life Coach. Meanwhile, five other young people from the programme are already working across the world through similar opportunities. Jade Davids has been embracing every moment in the breathtaking city of Dubrovnik, Croatia, while his twin brother John has been creating unforgettable memories in beautiful Greece. After finally securing the chance to work on the same ship, they received heartbreaking news that their mother had fallen critically ill. After attending her funeral last week, they are now awaiting their next embarkation dates as they prepare to continue their journey. Curwin Favier is currently in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Portugal, enjoying every moment of his global adventure. Meanwhile, Vanchenzo Morgan officially embarked two weeks ago on his exciting new journey in the Netherlands aboard the MSC Virtuosa. “BPS proudly celebrates the perseverance, professionalism, and positive attitudes displayed by all these young people. We believe this milestone is just the beginning of a journey filled with growth, discovery, and continued success,” added Daniëls.
